Inorganic Chemistry Exchange – Gain Research Experience!

Inorganic Chemistry Exchange Logo

Are you a chemistry student interested in gaining research experience?

The Inorganic Chemistry Exchange (ICE) program offers summer employment opportunities to undergraduate students in chemistry, who will have completed the equivalent of two or three full years of study as of May 2017. Up to 7 qualified candidates from across Canada are awarded employment as a summer research assistant at an institution other than their own, in the laboratory of one of these ICE faculty members:

  • Mario Bieringer – University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, MB
  • Johanna Blacquiere – University of Western Ontario, London, ON
  • Andrew Grosvenor – University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, SK
  • Vlad Michaelis/Jon Veinot, University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB
  • Eric Price, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, SK
  • Martin Stillman – University of Western Ontario, London, ON
  • Jennifer Love – University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC

The specific interests of the faculty participants vary considerably – there is a whole periodic table out there! Projects will range from synthesis and catalysis to materials science to bioinorganic chemistry. The ICE Program will wrap up with a workshop for all participating students and faculty at the University of Saskatchewan on August 17-18, 2017.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Friday, November 4, 2016 ★

To apply, please download the PDF from the ICE website and fill it in using Adobe Acrobat Reader. Application forms should be submitted electronically (preferred) or as hard-copy, along with a copy of your current academic transcript, to Professor Jennifer Love.

Vote Isla for Chemistry Representative!

Isla Chemistry Representative Candidate

Voting is open from September 21 – 23 at https://amsvoting.as.it.ubc.ca/

Our very own Isla wants to be your SUS Chemistry Representative! See what she has to say below:

HEY EVERYONE!
Hope you’re ready for some Chemistry puns, because I’m in my element

My name is Isla Wrightson and I’m currently in my second year studying chemistry. As you may have gathered, I’m running as the Chemistry Representative in this Fall’s SUS Elections!

I would love to have the opportunity to not only represent the Undergraduate Chemistry Society, but all of the amazing Chemistry Undergraduate students this year in the Science Undergraduate Society.

My goal is to try and have a wide array of faculty wide events for Chemistry Undergraduate students and to try and make this year as awesome as possible for science students in general. As the Chemistry Rep, my job would be to represent the Chemistry Department, so that our voices are heard and to work and communicate rigorously with both UCS and SUS in order to do just that. This year I believe we can have alkynes of fun!

Hopefully you find chemistry puns sodium funny too and vote for me to be your Chemistry Rep!

If you’re not in chemistry, please also take a look at all of the other Department Reps and be sure to vote for your favourite candidates!

Feel free to message me or send me an email (islawrightson@live.ca) if you have any questions, concerns, or just to say hi! ☺️

Want to hear more chemistry puns? Don’t worry, I’ll be telling you them… periodically.
