How much are they? $2 for a Beaker full of ethanol and $5 to buy a beaker you can keep for your coffee.

Anything else? YES! There will be fun mini-events where you can win other prizes from us!

LIST OF AVAILABLE POSITIONS AND THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES
Secretary x1 – Take minutes for weekly UCS meetings and take in charge of locker rentals.
Academic Coordinator x1 – Communicate with graduate school representatives from other universities to hold grad info sessions at UBC. Also, organize possible student run seminars throughout the year.
Social Coordinator x2 – Host and organize social events such as 2 bucks-a-beaker and Wine and Cheese.
Forum Coordinator x2 – Chemistry Forum is a careers night event for chemistry students. You will be communicating between potential speakers from the industry and UCS.
CURC Coordinator x2 – Organize Chemistry Undergraduate Research Conference (CURC). It is a research conference for 3rd and 4th year students with research experiences. As a CURC Coordinator, you will be communicating with the senior students and graduate students to host the event.
Grad Coordinator x1 – Be part of SUS Science Grad Committee to plan the grad event for the year. You will be communicating between the committee and UCS.
Outreach Coordinator x1 – Organize lab tours and take in charge of science week booth.
Website Coordinator x1 – Maintain UCS website (ucs.chem.ubc.ca) and keep it updated with event photos and descriptions.
Communication Coordinator x1 – Take charge of (Bi)Weekly Nesletter and SNS updates (Michael Acceptor and twitter @UCS_UBC)
General Exec x3 – Task to be determined…

On Feb 7, 2013, UCS hosted its Annual Chemistry Forum. This year, it was held at Abdul Lahda Science Student Centre. Students had the opportunity to attend speeches given by chemists in different fields, as well as network with them.

On October 25, 2012, many undergraduate chemistry students and professors gathered for a casual discussion. We had a great time talking with professors and collegues outside of classes. Next one coming up will be in January 2013. Look out for updates!

Professor Meet & Greet is an event where undergraduate students have the opportunity to network with professors outside of classrooms. With classy drinks and cheese, this event provides students a setting where you can easily interact with professors. Come out for a classy evening with UCS!

Professional Communications Workshop was held on Monday Oct 15, thanks to the help of Kimberly Rawes from Careers Services and Professor Dake. This workshop guided students through how they should approach professionals. Manner and unwritten rules about the most used communication method of emails were discussed, as well as when to use phone or in-person visits.

This is a free event for undergraduate students where your professional communications skill are fine tuned. To prepare yourself for the professional world out there, come out to our workshop. A guest speaker and a professor representative will be showing you how you should be communicating with professionals. Lunch provided!

On September 14, 2012, UCS hosted our very own traditional 2 bucks-a-Beaker at Abdul Lahda Science Student Centre. Many undergraduate and graduate students, as well as some of the chemistry faculty members came out and enjoyed the evening with us. The demand was still very high even after we sold out all our beakers. Music was playing and everybody was having a good time. It was a great way to end the week. Look out for updates for our next event!
2 Bucks-a-Beaker is back! Come out to Abdul Lahda Science Student Centre on September 14th and join us for a beaker full of fun. Also called the ‘Symposium of enzymatic oxidation of ethanols,’ this event brings undergrads, grads, and professors together for an informal networking night.

UCS participated in Faculty Fair in front of Abdul Lahda Science Student Centre for Imagine Day on September 4, 2012 UBC. It was a fun filled day with liquid nitrogen ice cream and chemistry pens. Many students showed interest in UCS as a club. It was a great start of the new academic year of 2012-2013! Welcome back everyone!
